Unit Recreational Activity 2011 Term 1

Today, HCINPCC organised the first URA of the year. URA represents Unit Recreational Activity and it only occurs once a term and replaces our weekly training so we had to treasure it. However, things did not go on so well initially. There were unexpected things that occurred, such as the change of weather in the early afternoon.

Firstly, we started off by watching a movie, due to the inclement weather, as part of the wet weather plan. The movie was quite nice and I am sure many people enjoyed it. The content of it was quite easy to understand expect for the ending part, where most people claimed that they did not understand it. The movie was therefore, a successful one, except for the fact that the air-con temperature was too cold for some people.

The movie ended after an hour or so. The weather changed for the better and a briefing was given about the games we had to play and also, the point scoring system. The bad thing was that Ultimate Frisbee was removed, most probably due to the lack of time and the lack of space. Many people preferred the other games to Ultimate Frisbee so this was not much of a problem since it was not so popular. I personally feel that Dodge Ball was the best game and I am sure that many who have tried it feel the same way. It was not so time-consuming and would aid you in your accuracy and being alert. It was certainly fun as we tried our best jumping from one space to another in order to avoid the balls.

The Unit Recreational Activity ended with a cheering session and a prize presentation. Although majority of the teams did not win, they still received prizes for participation in the games. The cheering session on the other hand…was quite terrible. The Secondary Threes were not loud enough for everyone to hear and also, did not know the entire cheer. This led to the “break in tune” and was thus, confusing. Only the "Yellow Ribbon" cheer was done quite well. On the other hand, the "Purple Light" cheer wasn’t loud enough and I am sure that many who have not heard the cheer before did not understand majority of the words that were spoken, especially the Secondary Ones and Twos. As for the ending cheer “Cuckoo”, it was quite well done and many people enjoyed the cheer. There was only a negative comment by a Secondary 4 cadet, Xing Liang, who said that the speed of the cheering was not fast enough.

In conclusion, the Unit Recreational Activity this term was quite enjoyable and fun, despite the minor setbacks that occurred. The Organizing Team must have really done a good job planning the games. Furthermore, it is their first time organizing such mass activities. For that, I would like to applaud the Organizing Team, for they have done a very good job. The Unit Recreational Activities in the future would most likely be better and thus, I am looking forward to it.
